Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal is the world largest stretch of fresh water and the largest lake in the world. It is more than 600km long with its width up to 80km. It is also the deepest fresh water lake in the world, over 1,600m in depth.

The amount of clean, fresh and drinkable water in the lake is estimated at 23,000 cubic kilometers. If all rivers in the world dried up, the volume of water in Baikal would suffice for humanity for 40 years, with a daily consumption of 500 liters per person per day!

Many freshwater species of fish are found in the lake. And it has the only freshwater seals in the world, stranded there thousands of miles from the sea.
