 In Jiuzhaigou

(30th Oct to 1st Nov 07)

Pg 2

Jiuzhaigou (Nine-Village Gullies) consists of nine Tibetan villages in three gullies which form in the shape of a “Y”. The three gullies are: Rize Gully on the top right, Zechawa Gully on the top left and Shuzheng Gully at the bottom. It is about 30km wide from east to west and 50km long from north to south.

The access to all the scenic spot in the three gullies is by buses. To ensure that the fragile environment is sufficiently protected, no private vehicles are permitted to enter the gullies and a range of tourist facilities have been provided.

The transport system in three gullies is good. To enter, one has to take a bus at the entrance to the confluence of the three gullies. From there one can decide to visit the left or the right gully. But the bus will take all passengers to the end of the gully without stopping. Only on the return journey will the bus make stops at various scenic spots to drop off passengers and to pick up others who want to proceed to another spots on the way down.

At the confluence, there is a Tourist Service Center and a number of restaurants.

To enjoy all the scenic spots leisurely, one needs two days to complete. On the first day, visit only the Rize Gully as it has the most scenic spots among the three gullies. The other two gullies can easily be completed on the next day.

The altitude of Jiuzhaigou Valley varies from over 2,000m at the entrance to over 3,000m at the top of the left and right gullies.

Juizhaigou has been blessed with some of the most captivating pristine landscapes on earth. It has more than a hundred lakes, many springs, splashing waterfalls and turbulent streams. The water, the soul of Jiuzhaigou, is crystal clear and sparkles with colors in brilliant sunlight. Words simply can not do justice to the most beautiful and inspiring scenery on earth, and so I will let the pictures below to demonstrate the beauty of Jiuzhaigou

In Jiuzhaigou, we stayed at the Paradise Hotel for three nights; a 5-star hotel situated about twenty kilometers from the entrance to Jiuzhaigou. It was a totally isolated hotel with nothing except forests and mountains surrounding it. Though it had all the facilities, the services there had left a lot to be desired.

Holiday Inn, located in Jiapo, a small town developed by the owner of Paradise Hotel, and situated about a few kilometers away from the Paradise Hotel could be a better hotel . It is a relative new hotel but located amongst some exotic stone buildings with shops, a theater and a pub!
