6.  SheXian County

Shexian County, situated at the southern foot of Mount Huangshan, is a famous historical and cultural place. The county abounds in ancient residential houses, memorial archways and ancestral temples. It is famed as Town of Arches. Most villages here show typical southern Chinese scenery featured by little bridges, murmuring streams and classical architectures.

Tangmo is another unique village where houses were built in the earlier Qing Dynasty. The age-old pavilions, the old trees, the memorial arches and a tranquil river cutting through the village are sights to behold.

 6.2  Huizhou (??) Old Town

Though Huizhou is the earlier name for Huangshan, Huizhou Old Town could be the home where Hui Culture first started. In this picturesque place, there are not only many newly restored commercial buildings but also old streets, arches and temples.

6.3  Tangyue Archway

At the entrance of the Yue Village, there are seven magnificent stone memorial archways along a path; three built in the Ming Dynasty and four in the Qing dynasty. They were built in the feudal society for the purpose of honoring meritorious service, moral integrity, charity as well as loyalty and filial piety.

There are two ancient temples by the side of the entrance of the archway; one for men called Dunban Hall or Nanci, which means a hall of good example and the other for women called Qingyi Hall or Nuci, which means a hall of good example. The latter was the first ancestral temple built for women on China.
